Tyrant - Under The Dark Mystic Sky

Not the American Trad-Metal outfit, this is symphonic black metal from Japan.
I've uploaded Under The Dark Mystic Sky, which was the better of the two albums I listened to. Grimoires was alright, but fairly boring.

On UTDMS however, there is some really good music. It is largely keyboard driven, but not in a pretentious way (on this album at least).
The harsh vocals are nothing special. Not bad, not outstanding. There are some very nice clean vocals used sparingly throughout.
The guitar is a little further back in the mix than in traditional black metal, but it complements the ambiance of the album nicely IMO. The guitar does get carried away into wankery, but this only happens now and then.

1. Prologue To A Tragedy (00:52)
2. Grudge Of Dannoura (09:05)
3. Ghost Waltz (06:48)
4. The God Of Winter (05:54)

Green Jellÿ - Cereal Killer Soundtrack

Trying to keep things fun, we have the ever amusing, Grammy nominated Green Jellÿ (pronounced "Jello"). If you are expecting truly amazing music from this group, stop it. It's all fun, comedic rock and roll, nothing more. The comparisons to GWAR are not unfounded.

This album is actually the soundtrack to the video album "Cereal Killer", which received a certain amount of airplay, especially their "hit", "The Three Little Pigs", a rock interpretation of the fable.

Apotheosis - Farthest From The Sun

A thrash metal/symphonic black metal one man band from Malta. Sauron composes all of the music for Apotheosis. Although the band was formed in autumn of 1993, it wasn’t until 2002 that Sauron released a full length, the four track epic Farthest From The Sun. "This album is appealing from the get-go, just look at the song titles for a start. Considering how it has the unfortunate stablemates of the 'symphonic black metal' genre, it hasn't picked up any of their negative influence. There isn't a trace of romance, religion, 'suicidal gothic vampire babes' or any of the things that could make this an unpleasant experience before you even turn the CD player on..."- Metal Archives

Brownsville Station - Motor City Connection

Brownsville Station was a band from Michigan that was popular in the 1970s. One of its earliest hits (1970) was called "Bebop Confidential" with songwriting credits given to band founder Cub Koda. Original members included Koda (guitarist/vocalist), Mike Lutz (guitarist/vocalist), T.J. Cronley (drummer), and Tony Driggins (bassist/vocals). They're best known for their hit song, "Smokin' In The Boys Room", from '73. Motor City Connection, released in '75, is considered the "hangover" album, themed around self-recrimination, guilt, and lonliness. But don't let that fool you... this album rocks pretty bloody hard, and should not be overlooked... so add it to your collection!

Hellbound Glory - Scumbag Country

Hellbound Glory is pure Scumbag Country, as real as the grime and grit on old abandoned buildings in the towns like Reno NV, Butte MT, Aberdeen WA, and Fresno CA that the members of the band grew up in. The band began in the summer of 2004 and after a few line up changes and countless gigs in divebars and honky tonks throughout northern Nevada they arrived at a solid line up and began to travel where ever anyone wanted to hear their honest Scumbag Country. Hellbound Glory's Scumbag Country sound builds on the roots of Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, and Outlaw Country to create something that is as traditional as Grandma's apple pie and as potent as your cousin's home cooked crank.

Zuby - The Whiskey Sessions

Zuby hails straight out of Flint, MI with a kick ass EP eloquently titled The Whiskey Sessions. This release was handed down to me from my older sister more than a few years ago. I have been unsuccessful finding any recent activity on the artist, so I'm assuming this is the latest-released material. An acoustic assemblage featuring one track consisting of a full band, this underrated EP deserves quite a bit more recognition.

Whitey Morgan & The 78's - Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels

Whitey Morgan and the boys hail from Flint, MI. That’s nowhere near Nashvegas. The factories are closed, jobs are scarce and the people are bitter. Whitey sings songs these people can relate to. In the spirit of Waylon, Merle and Willie; Whitey’s melodies help people forget their problems for a few hours and serve as the guideline for drinking sorrows away. The halftime groove brings out everyone’s dancing shoes and while Whitey plays, the world is a better place.
